Traditional boilers and tank-style water heaters get the job done - until they don't. They run out of hot water, they take up space, and they keep heating water even when nobody needs it. When a friend in Ojai was ready to move on from their old boiler setup, we were glad to help them find a better solution.
We swapped out the old system and installed a Navien tankless water heater on the exterior wall. Tankless units heat water on demand, meaning you're not paying to keep a big tank of water hot around the clock. The result is more consistent hot water and lower energy use over time - a straightforward win on both fronts.
The copper pipe work and the yellow gas line connection were all done cleanly and up to code. We also tied in a whole-house water filter at the base of the unit, which is a smart move for protecting the heat exchanger and extending the life of the system. Details like that matter in the long run.
Every home is a little different, and that's especially true when it comes to water heater placement and configuration. Part of our job is figuring out what makes sense for your specific setup - not just dropping in the same solution for everyone. This Ojai install is a good example of that.
If you've been thinking about making a similar switch, it's worth having a conversation. There's no one-size-fits-all answer, but for a lot of homeowners, going tankless is one of the better upgrades they make.
